Hidoku is not Sudoku. It’s a brand new puzzle game, played on a square or rectangle of any size. Your goal is to fill in the missing numbers from 1 to the maximum number (which is circled) by following one simple rule: consecutive numbers must touch each other either horizontally or vertically or diagonally. In this book there are 150 of these puzzles, which are all solvable by logic and no guessing is ever required. more info

My New Favourite

This is a great puzzle book to occupy your time with.
This book starts off with small puzzles, allowing you to fully grasp the concept. Unlike other books which seem to stay with small puzzles for three quarters of the book, this book gradually adds to the size of the puzzles. There’s even a puzzle that goes up to 225!
As someone who had never done a hidoku before this book, the guide at the beginning of the book fully explained the rules, and even gave a few tips. I found the difficulty levels to be fair. There are six levels of difficulty – Easy, Cool, Thinker, Brain, IQ, and Insane. Easy and Cool are really just the learning process. There were some Thinker puzzles that I sped right through, and there were others that kept me wondering for hours. The final three levels are where the real challenge – and fun! – are at.
As someone who frequently does a variety of puzzles, this is turning out to be my new favourite. After 150 puzzles, I still don’t find them to be repetitive. There are some other puzzle types where I get sick of doing them because they get repetitive after a while – This is not one of them.
My only complaint is that there aren’t enough books out on this puzzle, because I’m now addicted to them!

I generally like DJAPE puzzles, but this one does not intrigue. I have done similar puzzles found in the newspaper, but these are a little different in that they allow diagonal moves. This adds too many options for each move and it becomes a guessing game.
