Cheap and Shallow?

I was disappointed in the quality of the plastic board for the cost of $48.00. The ridges to keep the tiles in place seem too shallow, as tiles come out rather easily. Scrabble itself is a wonderful game!

For those who havn’t played, scrabble is a game where you get 7 letters and arrange them in words on a board for points. The catch is that you have to make your word fit within other players’ words by using the same letters. The game is really fun, and pretty educational. It has certainly helped my spelling skills! Drawbacks: The pieces are easy to lose, and turns can take a long time, especially if you have all vowels in your queue!

My mom has played scrabble for years, decades! she has always played on a stationary scrabble board. i was home for the 4th of July weekend (2008) and my mom and nephew mentioned having a board that would rotate. I ordered it sent it to her and in all the years she played , i never heard her carry on about that one board the way she did. just her excitement alone may me know the investment was well worth it.

All in all it’s scrabble a fun educational game but you could get that with any version without spending over a hundred dollars. If you feel you must get this take a serious look at the onyx version for fifty bucks. < -- if you wait for the right borders or bn coupon you can knock it down another twenty five percent.

I bought this Scrabble game after starting to play the game again. I used to play this when I was younger and thought it was fun back then. Now I know more words and it is more enjoyable than ever. When I discovered that there was a Scrabble game on a turntable there was no hesitation. It is easier to play the game when you can look at the right side of the board and not up side down. Amazon.com was a great place to purchase this Scrabble game. I went online and ordered. I wasn’ even charged shipping. It came to my house in Alaska in record time. Amazon.com is great.
Not worth the money

Let me preface this review by saying I don’t think the game Scrabble deserves one star. I love Scrabble and the rating is only about the quality of this particular edition.
My parents own the old Deluxe edition which I have played for many years. When my boyfriend and I decided to boy an edition of Scrabble for ourselves, this was immediately what I wanted. I love the ridges on the board, the turntable, and the quality of the trays and tiles of the old Deluxe edition.
Sadly, this is a far inferior edition. And for the price, I this it’s pretty shocking.
Problems:
* The tiles are poorly made. Examples: The white “ink” on the letter E came off completely onto my friend’s finger during a game, leaving only the engraving of an E on the tile itself. This was the first time the game was used. The tiles are all different sizes. Seriously. When you line them up on the tray, they don’t all line up at the top and they’re different widths. The letters are not all stamped in the center of the tiles, some skew to the left, to the top, to the right, you get the idea.
* The trays are cheap plastic. This may not bother some people, but I love the feel of the old, wooden trays. It’s nice that the tile distribution is printed on each tray, but they feel flimsy.
* The board is made of the same cheap plastic and the ridges are extremely shallow. One of the main draws of the Deluxe edition is the ridges because they keep the tiles in place. These ones don’t. Instead, they help create a terrain of peaks and valleys when the tiles get shifted during play.
* The turntable doesn’t raise the board very high off the table so it doesn’t clear the trays when turned. This means everybody has to pick up their trays or keep them far away from the board if you want to turn it between each play.
* And a personal preference: I don’t like the dark tiles. They’re more difficult to read than the traditional blond wood (probably because they’re not printed well, the ink is somewhat transparent).
Save yourself some money and do what we did: find an older Deluxe Scrabble on eBay and stay away from this one. If you really want it, I bet you can find a lot of people getting rid of it online.
Classic!

This classic is still so much fun the older I get and fun for younger family memebers also! Great price too. Taking advantage of the super saver postage free offer ordering through Amazon was less expensive than going to the toy store for purchase —- without gas expense or searching for a parking spot! This is terrific comparative shopping if you can be patient and wait a few days for arrival.

This is a great educational game. The deluxe version is on a turntable which makes it easier to work with and has pieces that stay in place in recessed spaces. It’s a real winner!

We just started playing Scrabble. We had a “regular” version (which has not been played)…but bought a travel version for keeping in our 5th wheel to play when we camp. We had problems with the way the travel version worked (though it is a WONDERFUL version). My husband had difficulty picking up the pieces, and even getting them into the “slots”. I happened to see the Deluxe version and thought that it would be great. It is large…but we are able to store it under our RVs mattress. We love the larger pieces, we love the ease of use, and REALLY like the fact that we can rotate it around for the other player to see. It is made VERY well. We don’t regret buying this version, as well as the “Official Scrabble Player’s dictionary! That is a must have as well!
Excellent family game

I love this game. And this edition is indeed deluxe. I was a bit confused by the description and the price since there seem to have been another listing that did mention the rotating table, when this one didn’t and it was a lower price. Well, it does come with a wonderful rotating table and base, so you can rotate around as each person comes to their turn. The board also has some divider lines along each row and column, so each letter stays nicely in place. Comes with a nice pad to keep score, a cute bag with the durable plastic letters, as well as 4 tiles stands and some cute stickers to go on each. A classic with a twist, literally. =)

This is not the delux model we expected. The plastic rims (edges) that hold the letter tiles, are not as high as expected, so the tiles are not held in place as expected when you spin the board for each player. We purchase a delux scrabble game years ago that had plastic edges for each tile that held each tile in place much better.

I purchase the Deluxe Turntable Scrabble as a gift for my birthday.
It is one of the best educational game I have every played.
I am thinking of purchasing some more, as gift to my families and friends.
I would recommend that every house should have one.

For everyone trying to replace the hard plastic spinning model from 20 years ago… Stay away from this! It is cheap and cheesy. The board is made of molded cardboard with a plastic film on top. It’s not even well connected to the frame, which is a cheap replica of the orignial. I got this as a gift for my mother and waas truly shocked at the poor quality. Buyer Beware!!!!
Cheap Board

I enjoyed this new deluxe board because of its ability to rotate. However, I took it to a friend’s house and left it in the car for about 2 hours the result was not pretty. The cheap overlay that forms the surface that you play on melted and warped. Despite attempts to reshape it I had to trash the whole set. For fifty dollars I think the manufacter could have made a product that stood up to 80 degree day.
Wrong scrabble game

I did not receive the game I had ordered as above. The game I did receive was the Diamond Edition, which I did see in the stores and it was much less than I actually payed by mail. The deluxe game was to be a replacement for my original deluxe scrabble which is 40 years old. I am disappointed that I did not receive the one sent for. I even tried at our local toy store and they did not carry it, so I was happy to see it on line….wrong one though.
Deluxe turntable Scrabble

I was disappointed in that my granddaughter’s version is unlike mine. The board is totally colorless unlike mine where there is a color code to each double or triple letter or word score.
Also, I was led to believe that when I used my newly opened Amazon credit card I would receive a $30 refund, which I have not received . Please respond.

Our family purchased a Deluxe Scrabble game in the late 1960s with S&H green stamps. It has been well used and is still in great condition. We purchased this new game for a niece who loves the game as we do. I’m sure this game will last as did our first. The price from Amazon was the lowest I could find anywhere!

Nothing Deluxe about this “Deluxe” Version

This Scrabble set is definitely not worth the $145 I paid for it. As as matter of fact, it is not worth any amount of money. If you’re thinking of buying it: DON’T. I play Scrabble on a regular basis and wanted a durable, “deluxe” set with a turntable to add to my collection of Scrabble sets. When I saw this on Amazon and read the manufacturer’s description (which turned out to be very misleading), I though it be would be professional quality. It is not. It is made of cheap, thin, breakable plastic, with flimsy plastic tile racks, and a very cheap looking board. And, to add to the cheap quality, I had to put parts of the set together. For this kind of money, I should not have had to twist in the rubber “legs” or stick the decal letter counters onto the racks, nor should I have had to suffer the embarassment of having the tiles slip off the board every time it was turned on its pedestal — thus ruining the first and last game played using this set. The only good thing I can say about it is that Amazon was gracious enough to send me a pre-paid return label, accept my return and fully refund my money. It’s a shame that Hasbro has stooped so low as to to producing and selling at an exhorbitant price a cheaply-made version of one the most enjoyable, educational, and popular board games ever played.

This improved version of Scrabble includes a board that revolves, so each player can see the board right side up; a grid to keep the tiles in place on the board; and a bag for storing the tiles and for selecting them without having to turn all the tiles right side up. It makes playing Scrabble fun again. My granddaughter loves it.

A real disappointment from an old Scrabble fan

My husband got this for my birthday. I have the old deluxe edition, but the turntable doesn’t turn freely anymore, so I wanted a new one. I love playing scrabble and have been playing for more than 40 years! When I opened the box I couldn’t believe the poor quality of this game. I can’t imagine this holding up for more than a few games. The board is flimsy cardboard mounted on a cheap plastic grid, and the letter trays are the poorest quality plastic I’ve ever seen in a game! What happened to you MB to produce this horrible quality product and then sell for such an exorbitant price? You get what you pay for certainly does not apply to this item. Stick to the cheap model and you are more likely to get something usable. I hope I am able to return this item because I sure don’t want it.
